It was just a few days ago that I went to an Open Mic. I mean its not the first time but each time I get out, I can't help but feel inspired, motivated, amazed at the talent shown and definately moved. Among many acts usually performed, Spoken word is one of the few that I always look forward to.
Spoken Word is a form of poetry that often uses alliterated verse and is from the poet’s point of view and also themed in current events. In entertainment, spoken word performances generally consist of storytelling. Spoken word has been a way for people to release their views and opinions. The spoken word evolved into the present day soap-box for people, especially younger ones, to express their views, emotions, life experiences or information to audiences. Most Spoken word artists talk about religion, politics, sex and gender and often taboo subjects in the world of today.

John Legend
JOHN LEGEND
A VOICE LIKE NO OTHER
There are a few artists in my life who I can think back and
remember where I was when I first heard them. When you’re so utterly moved by
something that you know you’ll never be the same again. When I first heard John
Legend I was browsing on YouTube when I came across one of his songs “stay with
u”. First thing that came to my mind was his voice! His smooth vocals! Why
haven’t I heard this song on the radio?
I’m always so
happy when the world catches on to something great. Especially when it’s
authentic talent, great song writing and a unique package. I am also so
relieved that John possesses the kind of passion that he does, that he’s crass
and funny and that he sings live and
incredible. His success renews hope in me that the world I live in has good
taste in raw talent and that we still occasionally come back to what’s simple
but yet amazing.
